The Lumion product roadmap is now live
Discover what's coming to Lumion with our first ever public roadmap
When do you know your work is done?
More often than not, the reality is that the work is never quite finished. There is always something that can be improved or refined. This encourages us to continually push the boundaries of what is possible. To experiment with new approaches, and to remain open to feedback and critique. In this article, we'll explore the progress that's been made and take a closer look at what you can expect from the software in the near future.
Lumion 2023 is much more than your typical upgrade. It marks the beginning of a new chapter and opens the doors to exciting new possibilities and innovations. We set out to create a new Lumion that significantly lifts render quality and realism by incorporating both ray tracing and rasterization techniques - something that had long been in the pipeline.
We quickly realized that in order to achieve this, we needed to go back to the drawing board. In the words of Lumion CTO Remko Jacobs, “It’s the first time that we have started over with all of the important algorithms, rather than building on top of an old version. We really started from scratch.”
With a completely new, modernized render engine, Lumion 2023 also introduced a new software updater that runs in the background, making it significantly easier and faster to install new features, content, and fixes. These two major changes lay down the foundations for faster innovations.
While the first implementation of ray tracing is still in its early stages, we’re actively working on expanding its scope and our development team has now almost doubled in size. To give you greater visibility of what’s keeping us busy, we are openly sharing our new product roadmap for the first time.
The roadmap offers more transparency on our new features, content, enhancements, and fixes, and is split into three sections:
What we’re currently researching
What we’re actively working on
What we’ve recently released.
It also allows you to share feedback on any of the new features in development or submit your own ideas and suggestions to the product team.
The roadmap itself is a work in progress. A living, breathing thing that will continuously be improved upon. Our product team will be making frequent updates to it - so watch this space. By making our product roadmap public, we hope to offer you a clearer line of sight into the future of Lumion and a way of contributing your own valuable insights to it.
So, if you haven’t already, take a look. We look forward to your input
