2024: a year of performance power-ups
A closer look at this year’s main performance boosts

Lumion’s performance evolution
This year, Lumion has seen steady improvements in performance, with updates designed to make your rendering experience faster, smoother, and more reliable.
With 2024 soon coming to a close, we thought it was the perfect time to look back at some of the most impactful updates made so far. So, let’s rewind to the start of the year and walk through the main performance improvements introduced along the way.
Lumion 2024
Cutting through the noise in real-time
Rendering clarity took a major leap forward with the introduction of the real-time denoiser, NRD, for build, photo, and movie modes. This tool reduces the noise in previews when ray tracing is enabled, giving you a crisp, accurate view of your final render right from the start.
The result? Smoother editing and faster design decisions, thanks to clearer, real-time feedback.
The alternative denoiser, OIDN, also got a performance boost specifically for AMD graphics cards, ensuring a smoother experience for even more users.
5x faster ray-traced videos
The introduction of NRD also significantly reduced the time it takes to render ray-traced videos compared to OIDN.
Since NRD requires fewer samples, you can now create movies of comparable quality – up to five times faster. And with reduced rendering times, it’s now quicker and easier to incorporate engaging animations into every stage of your workflow.

Lumion 2024.1
Reduced disk space & smoother updates
Introduced in Lumion 2023, the in-built updater allows for smaller, more frequent updates to be made, without the need to redownload and install the software each time. This invaluable little tool helps you keep Lumion up to date quickly and easily, saving you both time and hassle.
In the first minor release of the year, Lumion 2024.1, the updater’s performance was improved to make the process of staying up to date even smoother. How? By reducing the disk space required to install and apply updates.
Lumion 2024.2
From rough to ready
The benefits of Multiple Importance Sampling (MIS) were extended to rougher surfaces in Lumion 2024.2. By reducing noise even in challenging scenarios like rough surface shading, MIS enables high-quality renders with fewer samples – delivering faster results without compromising on detail.

Lumion 2024.3
Complex scenes made simple
Large, complex scenes became easier to handle in Lumion 2024.3, thanks to updates focused on improving performance in build mode and rasterized previews. Whether you’re working with detailed scenes or imported models with multiple surfaces, you’ll notice smoother editing and quicker previews.
Rendering times also saw a dramatic decrease, with rasterized scenes achieving higher frame rates and faster outputs.

Quick animation imports
Import times were also improved in Lumion 2024.3, particularly when dealing with complex animated models.
This update makes it faster to import complex animations into your scene. It also reduces the file size of these models, so they take up less space and load more quickly.
Lumion 2024.4
Lower VRAM, higher performance
The most recent release of the year welcomed a seriously impressive performance boost. This time, resource management was optimized in the software, resulting in a reduction of VRAM usage.
This means you can now enjoy considerable performance improvements when rendering large scenes – up to 46% in rasterization and up to 18% with ray tracing, to be precise.

Experience it firsthand
With all these improvements firmly in place in the software, the current version of Lumion is the fastest and most reliable yet. And there’s plenty more to come in 2025…
